Q: I have painted some of my walls with a Suede finish, but now just want to paint with a plain smooth paint. What preparation do I need to do?
First give a light sand, with fine sandpaper, wipe down and give one coat of Sealer undercoat. This evens out the porosity of the surface. Then repaint.
Q: Can I stain my new hardwood or Treated Pine deck straight away or must I wait for a certain period?
Waiting 3-6mths is preferable, but even so it is best to do the following, but essential if you want to do straight away. First, on Hardware there is a special prep-coat (such as Powerlift by Flood) to remove the excess Tannin (the sap- like substance that bleeds out of timber), wash down with power water sprayer, and then clean down with Oxalic Acid based Cleaner,(e.g Reviva, by Intergrain) washing well again with copious amounts of water, and then your timber is ready to stain. The Prep-coat is not needed on Treated Pine, but the cleaner is.
Q: Can I paint over Colorbond metal if I wish to change the colour?
Certainly. Make sure the surface is clean and etched, either by washing with strong sugar soap solution or if possible chlorine wash, and rinsed well, then paint with an exterior Acrylic paint.
Q: Can I paint my ceramic tiles to change the colour of them?
Yes! Ask us about the special primers and top-coats that are available to do this.
Q: My interior doors that were painted with white oil-based enamel now look cream. How do I get them to stay white looking?
Because of the resins used in 0il-based paints, it is not possible to prevent this entirely, particularly inside.(Inside a pantry door will lose its whiteness quicker than the outside, because of less exposure to light and air). The only thing that may help is to tint the paint slightly, or otherwise use a Water-based gloss which will stay white.
Q: Can Water-based paints be used over the top of oil-based paints? (i.e. on a door.)
Oil-based paints do provide a harder, smoother surface, but now with the new advanced formulas in water based gloss, this is achievable, as long as the oil-based paint is sanded with fine sand paper or 'ESP' to flatten the shine, making it possible for the new Water-based paint to adhere to the old.
Q: What do I need to do to paint new Galvanised Iron?
Just clean down well with Sugar Soap solution and Scotchbrite pad, rinse well, let dry and paint with Quality 100% acrylic paint.
Q: I have a water stain on my ceiling, and when I painted over it, the stain still came through. What do I do?
First make sure the source of the water stain has been rectified! Because water-based paints breathe, when you keep painting with water-based paints the stain can keep coming thru, so it is necessary to break the sequence of ingredients, by using and oil based sealer or 'Cover Stain' product, and then a coat of ceiling paint.
Q: I have a flaking and chalky ceiling. What do I do before I can paint?
Scrape off any loose and flaking paint, sand to smooth surface. Take care to 'feather' the edges where flakes have been removed.(Some areas may even need slight filling with very fine filler).Clean with damp cloth to remove any powder residue, allow to dry,
